I am Frank McGill of Chesapeake, Virginia, USA. I am doing research on the OConnor and OGara families who originated in the Glenmullynaha (Glann) townland in Mayo.
Michael OGara (I848-1927) was born in Glann, the son of Michael OGara and wife Ellen, nee Mulligan. He entered the USA through the port of Boston on 9 Apr 1874 and became a US citizen on 4 Feb 1888. He wed Maria Moran (1851-) in Fall River, MA on 8 Mar 1875. Maria was also born in Ireland and entered the US in 1874. She was a daughter of James and Winifred Moran. Michael and Maria settled first in Woonsocket, RI and then in Millville Village, Blackstone Township, MA where he owned and operated a tavern. Maria gave birth to four children: Thomas (I876-), born in Woonsocket; James Francis (1880-), born in Woonsocket, who wed his wife Margaret (1877-) in 1909; Mary (1883-), born in Woonsocket, who's husband had the surname Logan; and E Winifred (I894-), born in Millville, who wed Edward Mitenius on 22 Jun 1919 in Millville. I would like to gather more information about the descendants of Michael and Maria.
Patrick OGara (I865-) of Glann and his wife Margaret, nee Horan, of Curgarriffe were wed in Kilmovee Parish, Mayo on 17 Feb 1898 and raised their seven children in Glann. Their children were Dominick (I899-); Bridget (I901) Ellen (I903 -)who emigrated to the USA and wed Andrew Kennedy in Woonsocket, Rhode Island; Margaret (1904-1984) who emigrated to the USA at the age of fifteen, wed James F McBride (I909-1936) in St Charles Church, Woonsocket, RI on 12 Feb 1936 and raised their three children in that city- Patrick (1905-); Michael (1907-) who emigrated to England and Ann Maria (1909-). Andrew Kennedy was a police officer in Woonsocket for thirty six years. James F McBride, a Woonsocket police officer, was the son of Patrick McBride. There is a high probability that the father Patrick OGara was also wed to Ellen Veasy (I874-), a daughter of John Veasy and his wife Ellen, nee Owens, on 30 Mar 1910
I will share any information I gather with other descendants of these families, at no cost.
